2019年10月22日、米国カリフォルニア州大気資源局（CARB）は、先進クリーントラック規則（Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation）案について、意見募集を開始した。意見募集は、2019年12月9日までとなっている。規則案には、中型トラックおよび大型トラックの販売台数の半分を、2030年までにゼロ・エミッション車（ZEV）にすることを求めている。もし、これが規則として制定されれば、この種の規制について米国において初めて規制されるケースとなる。

クラス2b-3は、定格車両総重量（GVWR）が8,501～14,000ポンドの車両を意味する。また、クラス4は、GVWRが14,001～16,000ポンドの車両グループを意味する。他方、クラス8は、GVWRが33,000ポンド以上の車両グループを意味している。
※8500ポンドは約3.8トン、14000ポンドは約6.3トン、33000ポンドは約15トンに相当する。

2020年3月11日、カリフォルニア州ZEVプログラムへ参加する内容を盛り込んだ法案SB 5811がワシントン州上院を通過し、12日に知事へ送られた。これにより自動車メーカーに一定割合のZEV販売を求め、その比率を段階的に増加させていくZEV規制を同州も導入する目算となった。今後、具体的な規則策定へ動き出すと見込まれる。
